Rescue Ed Express (Stage 5 and 6 - Years 10 to 12)

Rescue Ed Express is a road safety and education initiative of Fire and Rescue NSW where firefighters deliver an interactive road safety presentation to potential learner drivers in high schools.

Given Fire and Rescue NSW is the leading rescue agency in NSW, it makes sense that we are involved in supporting road safety across the State. As a result, we partner with others to spread the road safety message. This means that the Rescue Ed Express presentation can be delivered as a stand alone or in collaboration with other road safety programs and organisations across NSW.

Target age group

Rescue Ed Express targets high school students in Years 9-12. Unfortunately, every year too many young people are injured or killed on the roads. While young drivers made up approximately 14% of all NSW drivers, they constitute approximately 30% of those killed or injured in vehicle crashes across the State each year.

What does Rescue Ed Express involve?

The Rescue Ed Express program is a 30-minute (approximate) presentation delivered by professional firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW to stage 5 and 6 students.

The presentation should be used in the context of an ongoing PDHPE program for Years 9-10 students (Stage 5).

The key message of the presentation is keeping young people safe on the road.  It involves firefighters discussing their real-life experiences attending road crashes.

Would you like FRNSW to deliver the Rescue Ed Express presentation?

Contact your local Fire and Rescue NSW station to organise a visit from your local firefighters to present Rescue Ed Express independently or in conjunction with your road safety program.

Key points to consider

  • A teacher must be present with the group. The duty of care and responsibility for discipline and direction rests with the teacher.
  • Please be mindful that all fire station crew are operational and may be required to respond to emergencies.
