Crews battle a warehouse fire on Parramatta Rd - VIDEO - Five Dock

Published: 12 Oct 2023 06:02pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are battling a large warehouse fire at Five Dock, in Sydney's inner west.

Shortly after 3pm, FRNSW received multiple Triple-Zero (000) calls reporting large volumes of smoke issuing from the warehouse on Parramatta Road.

On arrival, 18 FRNSW trucks and more than 60 firefighters, began controlling the fire which was rapidly moving through a warehouse containing multiple businesses, amid concerns the fire would spread to adjoining properties.

Among the contents of the warehouse was a supply of cigarette lighters, creating concerns the flammable butane gas would further fuel the blaze.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to infiltrate a thick layer of smoke, which was reducing their visibility.

Eastbound traffic along Parramatta Road, near Spencer Street, has been disrupted by the fire.

Fifteen people have been evacuated from the scene, with no injuries reported.

Surrounding businesses have been impacted with people unable to exit the area.

FRNSW efforts are being supported by Police, Traffic Management crews and NSW Ambulance.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
