Fire and Rescue NSW crews save precious pet's life after family home impacted by fire - Kellyville Ridge

Published: 19 Jun 2023 03:08pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews today have revived a family pet they rescued from a burning house at Kellyville Ridge, in Sydney's north-west.

More than 30 firefighters were called in to attack the blaze in Olea Street around 4am.

Two adults, two children and two pet dogs managed to escape before flames took hold at the back of the two-storey property.

FRNSW crews brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes.

A short time later, firefighters found the family's cat in an unresponsive state.

They performed compressions on the animal before hooking it up to an oxygen tank, which ultimately brought it back to life.

NSW Police then took the cat to an animal referral hospital in Baulkham Hills for further treatment.

The fire was extinguished around 6:30am.

Experts from FRNSW's Fire Investigation and Research Unit are now working to determine how the fire started.

FRNSW reminds everyone to ensure they have working smoke alarms fitted throughout their homes and prioritise other safety measures which can keep them and their loved ones safe from the increased risks of fire this winter.
