Fire investigators examine scene of grocery store blaze - UPDATED - CABRAMATTA

Published: 09 Mar 2023 09:18am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have stopped a shop fire spreading to adjoining businesses at Cabramatta, in Sydney's south-west.

Ten fire trucks and around 35 firefighters rushed to a two-storey row of shops and residences just before 3am today and found a grocery store well alight.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building to search for occupants and the seat of the fire.

A person was evacuated from an adjoining business.

No-one was injured in the incident.

The firefighting effort contained the fire to the shop of origin, with one neighbouring shop suffering smoke damage.

FRNSW expert fire investigators are working with NSW Police forensics experts to determine the cause of the blaze.

Police have declared the site a crime scene and FRNSW accelerant detection dog, ‘Xando,’ is also being utilised as part of the investigation.
