New Bushfire Tanker for North-west Slopes - Narrabri

Fire protection in the state’s North-west Slopes has been bolstered with the arrival of a new Bushfire Tanker.

Valued at $450,000, the Category One tanker is the latest of 34 new appliances funded by the NSW Government after the devastating 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires.

The Isuzu is a multi-purpose, off-road-capable tanker that can carry more water than typical urban fire engines.

The four-wheel drive also incorporates a new ‘Halo’ cabin protection spray system to protect its crew in flash-over situations.

Fire and Rescue NSW Zone Commander, Tom Cooper, said the new tanker will now be put through its paces by the local crew.

“It’s an impressive appliance, built with safety in mind,” Superintendent Cooper said.

“In some instances, the nozzle fitted to the front of the truck means the crew will be able to sit safely in the cabin, using a remote control to pour water onto fires.”

Emergency Services Minister, Jihad Dib, said the arrival of the Narrabri appliance means 30 of the 34 promised Bushfire Tankers are now installed in their chosen FRNSW stations.

“I’m proud to say the rollout of these important new tankers is almost complete, and I look forward to seeing how this incredibly worthwhile investment helps FRNSW further serve NSW communities,” Minister Dib said.
