***VISION ALERT*** Firefighters extinguish intense house fire - Doonside

Published: 17 Jun 2024 05:30pm

Three people have escaped an intense house fire, started by furniture too close to a heater this afternoon at Doonside, in Sydney’s west.

Seven Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews rushed to the single level home in Graham Street around 2.30pm.

A woman, aged 50, and two men, aged 18 and 20, made it out of the house as the flames took hold.

They’ve been assessed for smoke inhalation and burns by Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment.

Firefighters say office chairs were placed too close to an electric heater and caught fire, starting the blaze.

The house was fitted with smoke alarms but it appears they did not activate.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in just over an hour but flames had damaged 20 percent of the home.

FRNSW urges the public to keep materials at least a metre from the heater at all times to avoid such fires.

Also ensure your homes are fitted with working smoke alarms and maintain a home fire escape plan for all occupants.

The public can find further winter fire safety advice on the FRNSW website: https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/page.php?id=879 [external link]
