***VISION ALERT*** Home extensively damaged by fire - Merrylands

A fire has caused extensive damage to a home in Merrylands in western Sydney this afternoon.

Just before 2.00pm, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a house that was well alight in Murray Street.

On the way to the incident, firefighters observed thick smoke in the area and requested extra resources.

Six trucks and more than 24 firefighters arrived on scene and began attacking the intense fire.

Flames were threatening adjoining properties and crews worked hard to protect them.

It took firefighters approximately 90 minutes to control and extinguish the blaze and there were no reported injuries.

Investigations are now underway to the cause of the fire.
