Fire and Rescue NSW out to sink the Navy in traditional ‘Ship to Shore’ Rugby League encounter - Sydney

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is set to come out ‘all guns blazing’ in just over a week when the ‘fireys’ take on the Royal Australian Navy in their traditional “Ship to Shore’ Cup Rugby League match.
It’s set to be a fiery encounter on Sunday 21 April at North Sydney Oval, a curtain raiser to the NSW Cup game between Norths and Canberra.
Last time the FRNSW Phoenix played the RAN Tridents, both captains were sent from the field, with the firefighters claiming a four-nil victory.
However, the sailors own the bragging rights, winning three of the five Cup clashes before COVID interrupted plans for a 2023 re-match.
The Phoenix, this year made up of Permanent and On-Call firefighters from across Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Newcastle and the Central Coast, boast a new captain in former Australian Schoolboys representative, Luke Vescio, who’s set to fire a shot across the Navy’s bow.
The FRNSW side also features two players best known for their reality television appearances, Haydn Langdon (My Mum, Your Dad) and Dan Nilsson (Love Triangle).
Gates open at 12.30pm and the Ship to Shore match gets underway at 1pm.
A $5 entry fee will apply before the curtain raiser.
