12 people assessed during toxic gas incident - Smithfield

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are at the scene of a hazardous materials incident at Smithfield in Sydney's west.
A 29-year-old man is believed to have been mixing sulphuric acid and chlorine at a pipe manufacturing business in Woodpark Road around 8.30am when he inhaled toxic fumes.
NSW Ambulance paramedics transported the man to hospital for further treatment and assessed 11 other workers at the site.
Three fire trucks, including two HAZMAT units, have responded to the emergency and firefighters are checking gas levels within the building.
They have confirmed there has been no chemical spillage.
