$950,000 State-of-the-art fire truck to protect Sydney’s west - VIDEO - Smithfield

Fire and Rescue NSW’s coverage in Sydney’s south-west has been boosted with the installation of a new fire truck.
Valued at $950,000, the Scania P320 Class 3 Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) Pumper seats up to five firefighters and is Smithfield Fire Station’s latest primary vehicle for urban fire response.
The automatic transmission ‘heavy’ Pumper is designed for use in both metropolitan and regional areas and is fitted with in-cabin Breathing Apparatus-equipped seating.
The CAFS technology allows the truck to significantly reduce water usage, allowing a more efficient dispersal of foam and water and reducing runoff when extinguishing fires.
The P320 comes in other variations such as a joint Pumper/Hazmat or Primary Rescue vehicle, but as a Pumper, the new truck is a perfect fit for the area’s needs.
“The Smithfield area contains a lot of industrial businesses that require a rapid-fire response,” FRNSW Zone Commander, Andrew Shurety, said.
“The pumping capacity on this truck means it’s ready to deal with any fire emergency that occurs in Sydney’s west and I know the Smithfield firefighters are very happy with the new addition that will make their jobs easier,” Superintendent Shurety said.
Emergency Services Minister, Jihad Dib, has welcomed FRNSW’s latest addition to its fleet.“This new pumper is now on watch in Sydney’s industrial heartland, ready to protect life and property in the city’s west,” Minister Dib said.
“The truck’s CAFS capabilities mean we can put fires out faster, with additional benefits to the environment.”
