Fire and Rescue NSW officers receive formal welcome to the Kimberley flood-zones by local elders - Fitzroy Crossing

A team of Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters has received a first nation 'welcome to country' as it arrives in the Western Australian flood zones.
Three of the FRNSW Response Co-ordinators have been deployed to Broome, along with a FRNSW support officer, while the other three have travelled to Fitzroy Crossing to lend assistance to the communities devastated by recent floods.
The FRNSW experts in logistics, safety and resource management are providing support to Western Australia's Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in the Kimberley region.
In a gesture of gratitude, elders from the Danggu lands of Bunuba Country have held a special smoking ceremony at Fitzroy Crossing to welcome FRNSW and other emergency agencies during the crisis.
In return, FRNSW Inspector, Russell Turner, thanked senior elder, Mary, with a special 'Challenge' coin from the Fire and Rescue Emergency Services Academy in Sydney's west.
