Firefighters stop blaze spreading to Lithium-Ion battery storage site - VIDEO - Rydalmere

Published: 26 Feb 2024 02:46pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have battled a large blaze in an industrial complex, at Rydalmere, in Sydney's west, preventing flames from spreading to stocks of Lithium-Ion batteries.

The blaze broke out in a unit in South Street, just after 7am.

Around 80 firefighters responded at the height of the fire.

As crews accessed the unit ablaze, they found the flames had taken hold in a series of high bay pallet racks of electrical components.

They also noticed smoke issuing from an adjacent two-level office space.

Crews in breathing apparatus also cleared that area and established an offensive zone to prevent the blaze spreading to additional, neighbouring businesses.

One of those undamaged units contained supplies of Lithium-Ion batteries, also contained on raised storage racks.

Had the flames had reached those batteries, firefighters would have been dealing with a much more intensive and volatile emergency.

Fire crews extinguished the fire and handed the site over to FRNSW investigators, who are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
