Firefighters to conduct home fire safety blitz of entire town - VIDEO - Warren

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews will visit all 785 homes in the central west township of Warren this weekend, offering residents crucial home fire safety advice and checking for working smoke alarms.
Following a similar recent safety blitz at Merriwa in the Hunter Valley, crews are keen to ensure households in Warren are protected from fire and have current home safety escape plans.
Firefighters from the district will offer to check, install or replace smoke alarms in homes, free of charge, where needed.
Seven people have died during 842 residential fires so far this winter. 78 people have been injured.
That represents a five per cent increase in fires and 21 per cent rise in injuries, on this stage of winter last year.
In almost half the home fires this winter, a smoke alarm either wasn't fitted or didn't activate.
Crews will door-knock residents this Friday (25 August) and will host a community fun day event at Saunders Park on Saturday to encourage potential FRNSW On-call (retained) recruits.
FRNSW Duty Commander, Acting Inspector Chris Cusack, said he hopes the home fire safety blitz will safeguard the town's residents and possibly attract new members to the Warren brigade.
