Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is battling a large house fire in Guildford.

More than 40 firefighters and 10 trucks are on scene at a home on Marian Street that is well alight.

Crews initially attacked the fire internally but due to the intense heat and flames, were forced to withdraw and are currently attacking the blaze externally from multiple sides.

The fire is also being attacked from above by an aerial platform.

Nearby residents have been evacuated and there is a large amount of smoke in surrounding locations.

People are being urged to close windows and doors and avoid the area if possible.
