Large Warehouse Fire - VIDEO - Homebush

Published: 14 Mar 2023 11:13am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is investigating the cause of a large fire which destroyed a warehouse and forced the evacuation of homes in Sydney's inner west overnight.

Forty firefighters and 10 fire trucks responded to the blaze in an electrical wholesale business on Parramatta Road, Homebush West, just after 10:30pm.

Flames had already engulfed the centre unit in a row of three,

Around 20 people were evacuated from nine homes at the rear of the fire scene, as a precaution, due to a thick blanket of smoke and concerns the back wall of the warehouses could collapse.

All lanes of Parramatta Road were closed for about five hours.

Firefighters using two aerial ladder trucks attacked the fire from above with additional crews using hose lines from the ground.

Wearing breathing apparatus, they worked to cut off the fire before entering the building to put out the flames.

It took around four hours to bring the fire under control.

FRNSW remained on scene overnight as a precautionary measure.

FRNSW specialist fire investigators and NSW Police have commenced an investigation into how and where the fire started.
