Fire and Rescue NSW responds to dozens of incidents after wild winds batter parts of Sydney - NSW

Published: 31 Oct 2023 09:52am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is responding to more than 50 calls for help after strong winds lashed parts of Sydney's west and south-west overnight.

Gusts of more than 100 kilometres per hour buffeted some suburbs, leaving a trail of debris and destruction and causing some properties to lose power.

FRNSW has been called in to assist the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) with trees which have crashed down onto houses and roads, fallen powerlines, and electrical wires arcing and sparking.

The majority of these incidents have now been responded to, with emergency teams expected to clear the remainder over the coming hours.

A number of fires also occurred during the night but it's unclear if any are related to the storm event.

No injuries, related to the wild weather, have been reported at this time.

FRNSW is reminding the public to only call Triple Zero (000) for life-threatening emergencies.

The NSW SES is available on 132 500 if you require assistance during floods or storms. More information is available on http://ses.nsw.gov.au [external link]
