Dozens of Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters today have set out on an epic 24-hour climb of the Furber Steps at Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains, to raise money for charity.

The group is seeking to aid research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND), as part of the annual ‘Firies Climb for MND’ event, and so far have raised almost half of its $100,000 target.

The firefighters set off on their charity mission today, supported by FRNSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, and Deputy Commissioner - Field Operations, Paul McGuiggan.

It's the first time, the gruelling stair climb has been attempted over 24 hours.

From 11am on Saturday 31 August, there will be a ‘Parents and Kiddies Climb,’ and the public is welcome to visit Scenic World, Katoomba, to watch or participate.

The event will conclude at 12pm tomorrow, Saturday 31 August.
