Firefighters investigating cause of boat fires - Video - Church Point

Published: 10 Aug 2023 09:05am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters are working to identify the cause of a blaze which has destroyed three boats at a marina at Church Point on Sydney's northern beaches.

The fire broke out on board one of the vessels moored at the marina on McCarrs Point Road around 5am.

Flames spread from one boat to two others nearby.

Six FRNSW trucks and 22 firefighters arrived at the scene and crews managed to prevent the fire spreading to at least 20 other vessels.

Water Police and the Rural Fire Service, with two boats deployed, assisted fire crews.

There was no-one on board the burning vessels and no reports of injuries.

The boats were pushed to the shoreline to allow better access to the flames and minimise environmental damage.

Hazmat firefighters, liaising with the Environment Protection Authority, also established a boom to contain leaking fuel, oil and other contaminants.

The boats are carrying 1000 litres of fuel.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is already underway.
