Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters save man from burning unit - Balmain

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters today have rescued a man from his burning unit at Balmain, in Sydney's inner west.

A neighbour called Triple Zero (000) after noticing smoke pouring from the second level of a three-storey complex on Nicholson Street just after 3:30am.

When FRNSW crews arrived on scene, they immediately began fire attack and searched the impacted unit.

Firefighters found a man in a bedroom and carried him to safety before providing initial medical care.

He was treated by by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

A small number of people from neighbouring units were also evacuated while the situation was brought under control.

The fire was extinguished in less than an hour.

Experts from FRNSW's Fire Investigation Research Unit (FIRU) and NSW Police are working to establish the cause of the blaze.
