Intense fire spreads throughout family home - VIDEO - Strathfield

Published: 31 Jan 2023 04:13pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews believe an electrical fault was the likely cause of an intense house fire today at Strathfield, in Sydney's inner-west.

Around 12.15pm, FRNSW received multiple Triple Zero (000) calls about smoke issuing from the two-storey home on The Boulevarde.

40 Firefighters from 10 fire trucks worked to extinguish the blaze that is thought to have started in a basement switchboard and then rapidly spread to a bedroom, before taking hold in the ceiling.

Authorities established an exclusion zone around the property as they accounted for the home's occupants.

Part of the building collapsed during the third alarm fire, which is not considered suspicious.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said, "This is a timely reminder that fires do occur at all hours of the day and across all communities.

"Working smoke alarms are the first line of defence for protecting your family and other occupants from a fire in the home."
