Automotive workshop up in flames - Smithfield

A fire has destroyed an automotive workshop in Smithfield this afternoon.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received a number of Triple Zero (000) calls to a building fire in Percival Road just after 2.20pm.

Crews reported large volumes of smoke whilst enroute to the incident and requested more resources.

Fifteen fire trucks, including a ladder platform truck, and 60 firefighters battled the blaze and stopped the fire spreading to adjoining properties.

Crews extinguished the blaze at approximately 3.50pm.

Twenty people were evacuated from the workshop and surrounding premises.

One person was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance and later transported to hospital.

It is not known at this stage what caused the fire.
