Large Warehouse Fire - VIDEO - Girraween

Published: 29 Oct 2023 11:43am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews remain on scene, mopping up, after a fire ripped through a large storage warehouse at Girraween, in Sydney's west overnight.

The blaze broke out on the Great Western Highway just before 2am.

At the peak of the fire, more than 100 firefighters and 20 fire trucks worked to stop the fierce fire from spreading to neighbouring businesses.

Firefighters initially attempted to enter the building to extinguish the fire but were pushed back by the intense heat.

The roof and walls of the building collapsed.

Firefighters used four aerial ladder trucks to safely get over the top of the fire to contain it.

There were water supply issues, with firefighters pumping water from remote locations to the scene.

The Great Western Highway was closed in both directions for several hours.

The building is expected to smoulder for the rest of the day and into tomorrow.

It is too dangerous for firefighters to enter the building to complete extinguishment.

Firefighters will remain on scene whilst the building is still burning.

FRNSW expert fire investigators have arrived on scene to determine where and how the fire ignited.

The investigations are expected to take several days.

No evacuations were required and no injuries reported.
