Driver cut from a car after crash - Curl Curl

Published: 23 Feb 2023 05:11pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) specialist fire fighters have today freed a driver who tried to stop his runaway car and was crushed by a fence at Curl Curl, on Sydney's northern beaches.

The man ran along Bennett Street around 1pm, trying to stop his vacant car rolling down a hill.

He managed to open a passenger door in a bid to apply the brakes, but the vehicle crashed into a school security fence, pushing his upper body into a footwell and causing serious lower body injuries.

Firefighters from Dee Why were joined by a FRNSW Rescue crew and went to work, unbolting the fence and removing a pole.

They then cut off the car door to access the pinned driver, believed to be aged around 60.

The driver was freed around an hour later and immediately assessed by paramedics and a trauma doctor who arrived at the scene.

He was then placed in an ambulance and transported to hospital for emergency treatment.
