Published: 24 May 2024 02:05pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have responded to a shopping centre at Swansea, at Lake Macquarie, where a car has careered into a store.
The incident occurred just after 9.30 this morning at the rear of the Pacific Highway property.
The driver appears to have lost control of the Ford in the shopping centre car park and the vehicle has ploughed through the wall of a Haberdashery shop, a local, family-owned business for more than 55 years.
Two people inside the store narrowly escaped harm.
The owner was at the rear of the shop when she heard the impact, the car crashing through shelves of wool and craft supplies.
She's told firefighters, had the crash happened 20 minutes later, her business would have been busy hosting a regular craft group.
Firefighters from the nearby Swansea Fire Station were quickly on scene.
The crew helped cut the power supply, assess the structural integrity of the building and clear the site of debris.
It also helped extract the car from the ruins.
