Building Fire - Mayfield

Shortly after 12am this morning Fire and Rescue NSW crews from the Newcastle region responded to Frith St, Mayfield following reports of a fire in a commercial building.

Upon arrival crews found a hydraulic line from machinery had burst and ignited, causing multiple fires in the building and spreading to the control room of the factory.

More than than forty firefighters battled the blaze for a number of hours and managed to contain the fire just before 4am, however the building was severely damaged.

Approximately forty people were evacuated from the area, with one treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation.
