House Fire - Hilltop

Just after 12:20pm today, Fire and Rescue NSW received a Triple Zero (000) call, following reports of a house fire on Coats Road, Hill Top.

Crews from Mittagong Fire Station, arrived on scene and found the house fully involved in fire with large amounts of smoke issuing from the building.

Fire and Rescue NSW worked alongside the Rural Fire Service, who attended the incident with a bulk water tanker to assist. Firefighters worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control, however the house was destroyed.

Initial investigations indicate the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the home.

The leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.

"If your cooking catches fire never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
