Restaurant fire - Newtown

Just after 5pm this afternoon Fire and Rescue NSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls reporting a fire at a restaurant on King St, Newtown.

Upon arrival firefighters found a restaurant well alight with large amounts of smoke issuing from the kitchen of the building. More than 20 firefighters battled the blaze and managed to quickly contain the fire.

NSW Ambulance are also on scene however there are no reports of injuries at this stage.

Traffic on King St, is heavily affected while emergency services continue to render the area safe. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Fire and Rescue NSW would like to thank the local community for coming forward to alert emergency services. Calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
