Garage Fire near Sydney Airport - Mascot

Shortly before 9am this morning, Fire and Rescue NSW responded to numerous calls of smoke coming from a garage in Mascot, very close to Sir Kingsford Smith Airport.

Crews from Mascot and Botany fire stations arrived to find the garage well alight and got to work immediately with fire attack.

Airport firefighters were also on scene, as smoke from the fire was interfering with air traffic control at the edge of the runway.

A third truck from Alexandria fire station was also requested for protection of the house and neighbouring properties given the difficult location of the property.

UPDATE 9:33am
Fire and Rescue NSW have responded to a fire in Mascot, close to the airport. Crews arrived to find garage well alight and proceeded with fire attack.

Crews have evacuated neighbouring homes as a precaution, due to asbestos present in an adjoining shed.

Police are in attendance. No injuries have been reported.
