Fish Truck Fire - Bombo

A large truck carrying fish has been almost totally destroyed by fire near Kiama on the Princes Highway.

The first of many Triple Zero (000) calls was received at 6:47pm, Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters from Kiama fire station arrived shortly after to find a truck fully involved in fire.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to contain the blaze which was in the Minamurra rest area.

Assistance from the Rural Fire Service was requested for additional water.

Once the fire was contained, hazmat experts from Shellharbour Fire Station worked to contain a subsequent fuel spill over about 400 litres of diesel.

The remains of the truck will be salvaged this morning.
