Fire and Rescue NSW crews from across South-Eastern Sydney are currently on the scene of a garage fire at a property on Kendall Street, Sans Souci.

An off-duty firefighter who was on a walk in the area saw smoke billowing from the property and managed to gain entry.

After searching the building to ensure there were no occupants in the home, he called Triple Zero (000) to report the blaze.

Crews arrived on scene to find large volumes of thick black smoke and a garage well alight at the back of the property.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the garage and are working to extinguish the blaze.

Pleasingly, many Triple Zero (000) calls were received to report the fire.

Calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
