HAZMAT incident - Beecroft

The Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT team from Chester Hill attended an address in Albert Road, Beecroft after a container of the highly explosive picric acid and two mortar shells were found and triple zero alerted at 9.36am today.
The picric acid was found stored in a bucket which is not according to safety recommendations and as a result is at risk of exploding.
The mortar shells were aged and rusted but othwerise intact.
Seven surrounding houses were evacuated and local roads in the immediate were closed as FRNSW worked with the Police bomb squad to render the acid and the mortar shells safe.
The acid and the mortar shells will now be disposed of safely.
