Major Gas Leak - Strathfield

Published: 03 Aug 2020 04:16pm

Fire and Rescue NSW crews from across the Inner West of Sydney were called to a major gas leak in Strathfield.

Crews arrived to find workers had drilled through a pipe and gas was venting into the area around the intersection of Barker Road and Marion Street.

Hose lines were deployed and a fog spray was used to assist in diffusing the gas as it leaked from the ruptured pipe.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews worked with NSW Police to evacuate people in a 200m radius, this included numerous residents and pedestrian access was restricted.

Workers have been digging to locate the pipe and its leak throughout the night and operations will continue into the morning.
