Residents evacuated during basement car park fire - Merrylands

Authorities have evacuated at least 20 people as firefighters battle a fire in an apartment block car park at Merrylands in Sydney's west.

The blaze broke out around 10.50am sending a large amount of smoke from the basement of the three-level Newman Street property.

Four Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) engines from the Merrylands, Guildford, Parramatta and Smithfield Fire Stations rushed to the scene where some residents have reportedly suffered smoke inhalation.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, have entered the underground car park to attack the fire.

Police and Ambulance officers are also at the scene.
