Worker's hand caught in garbage truck compactor - Wetherill Park

Published: 14 Oct 2022 10:53am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) specialists are attempting to free a worker whose hand has become stuck in a garbage truck compactor at Wetherill Park in Sydney's south-west.

The incident occurred in an industrial site in Davis Street, just after 8.30am.

Heavy Rescue technicians from Liverpool and Wentworthville have joined local firefighters at the scene, trying to safely free the 46-year-old man's hand.

Ambulance officers have stabilised the worker as fire crews consider dismantling the compactor mechanism near the truck's rear hatch or even cutting away the side of the vehicle during what is proving to be a complicated rescue.

The truck was empty when the incident occurred.
