Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a blaze in a mixed business at Hassall Grove in Sydney's west.

Five fire trucks from Mount Druitt, Blacktown and Ropes Crossing Fire Stations rushed to the Melanie Street shop after reports of an explosion and smoke issuing from the property around 3.45am.

Two adults and three children, living in an attached residence, made it to safety.

Firefighters rescued at least one pet dog from the burning building and expressed concern about a number of gas cylinders within the business.

They forced entry to the shop and quickly extinguished the flames.

The cause of the fire is being determined.
