Firefighters to share life-saving safety advice and up-close look at emergency scenarios - Bankstown

Western Sydney locals will get to see up-close how Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) responds to fires and car crashes, as firefighters drive home important safety messages this weekend.
FRNSW crews from Bankstown, Campsie and Lakemba will take part in the Bankstown Community Safety Expo, being held on Saturday 24 September.
The event is being led by the City of Canterbury Bankstown Council and will include firefighters simulating a kitchen fire and cutting apart a wrecked car to free a mock patient – scenes they are confronted with nearly every day on the job.
One of FRNSW’s accelerant detection dogs and their handler will also be present, demonstrating the crucial role they play in fire investigations.
Members of the public will also be able to hear from fire experts about how they can protect themselves and their families in their own homes and on the roads.
An Arabic-speaking firefighter will be on-hand to tailor messaging to specific communities.
People will also be able to arrange FRNSW to visit their own homes and conduct a safety check, in which firefighters offer practical advice, and install a free smoke alarm if there isn’t one already working in their home.
The Bankstown Community Safety Expo runs from 9am to 5pm at Bankstown Centro on Lady Cutler Avenue.
NSW Ambulance, NSW Police, the NSW State Emergency Service and Surf Life Saving NSW will also be in attendance.
Event organisers are also promising performances, giveaways, kids’ face painting and a petting zoo across the day.
