Firefighters save townhouse - Video - Bankstown

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have stopped a fire from engulfing a two-level townhouse overnight at Bankstown, in Sydney's south-west.

Just before 2am, firefighters were called to the home in Ogmore Circuit where a fire had ignited in front of an attached garage.

The occupants were evacuated as the fire began spreading to the townhouse.

Firefighters cut off the fire before it could take hold.

A mobility scooter parked at the front of the garage was destroyed.

The front section of the home and two cars, one in the garage and another parked next to the scooter, were damaged.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by NSW Police and FRNSW fire investigation experts.

FRNSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry says the blaze serves as a timely reminder to all owners and landlords that homes must be fitted with a working smoke alarm that is less than 10 years old

A working smoke alarm must be fitted on each level of the home as a minimum and should be tested regularly.
