Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are currently on the scene of a factory fire on the Central Coast.

The blaze broke out on Wisemans Ferry Road in Somersby around 9am.

Approximately 20 fire trucks and 80 firefighters rushed to the scene, with FRNSW crews supported by the NSW Rural Fire Service.

The factory is believed to contain flammable gases and approximately 1,000 litres of diesel.

Multiple explosions have been reported.

Approximately 40 neighbouring businesses have now been evacuated. A number have since been allowed to return.

One person has been treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation and burns and has been taken to hospital.

FRNSW expects the fire will take some time to extinguish as it is has proven difficult to gain safe access to the scene. There are concerns that the building is unstable.

HAZMAT crews are also working to monitor water run-off into streams.
