Faulty toy causes large house fire - Merrylands

Published: 19 Jul 2022 11:33am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) investigators believe an electrical fault in a battery-powered toy caused a large blaze last night in a Merrylands townhouse.

A woman and two young children escaped the blaze, which broke out in Bowden Street just before 7.30pm.

FRNSW crews from Yennora and Guildford were quickly on the scene and entered the home to extinguish the flames.

Houses on either side of the property were also under threat from the large fire, and all residents were quickly evacuated.

The townhouse was destroyed by the blaze, which was started by a remote-controlled toy car, connected to a charger.
