Two people injured in kitchen gas blast - Warners Bay

At least two people have been injured by a gas bottle explosion in a hotel kitchen at Warners Bay, at Lake Macquarie.

A man turned on the portable gas bottle to start up a deep fryer at the Hillsborough Road property just after 11.30am when it exploded.

The 40-year-old suffered serious burns to 40 per cent of his arms.

A second person received minor burns to their hands.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews from Cardiff and Charlestown were quickly on site and rendered the area safe.

The two patients were taken by NSW Ambulance to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital, while paramedics assessed two other people at the scene.
