Firefighters extinguish explosive B-double blaze - Halfway Creek

Published: 07 Jul 2022 08:27am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews have extinguished an explosive truck fire that blocked the Pacific Highway, north of Coffs Harbour, on the state's north coast, this morning.

The B-double was travelling north near Halfway Creek where its two trailers caught alight just before 2.30am.

Multiple explosions were reported as flames ignited the semi-trailer's load of aerosol cans.

The driver disconnected the prime mover from the trailers and drove it clear of the fire.

Nine FRNSW trucks, including Hazardous Materials crews, and at least four Rural Fire Service units rushed to the scene, where Police blocked traffic in both directions.

The scene was declared safe just before 6am.

The cause of the blaze is being determined.
