Budget investment to support community preparedness -

Published: 21 Jun 2022 04:42pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) will be better equipped to support the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and other incidents following funding announced in the 2022-23 NSW Budget.

The Budget allocates $862 million for FRNSW, helping the agency continue its response during times of urgent need such as natural disasters like the recent Northern Rivers floods, and emergencies involving fire, rescue, hazardous material incidents and building collapses.

More than $105 million will be invested in property improvements, including the construction of new female amenities at fire stations across the State.

In addition, $1 million will be invested in upgrading areas at fire stations where firefighter breathing apparatuses are cleaned and decontaminated, as part of a raft of health and safety improvements for firefighters to reduce the risk of carcinogens.

The Budget also provides $9 million to roll out 16 bush fire water tankers, phasing out the ageing fleet and ensuring firefighters have what they need to keep the community safe.

The bush fire tankers complete the Government’s funding commitment to FRNSW following the 2019-20 Black Summer bush fires.
