Factory Fire - Carrington

Published: 14 Jun 2022 07:57pm

Authorities have evacuated up to 20 people from a large factory engulfed by fire at Carrington in Newcastle.

The blaze broke out just after 5.30pm in an automotive spring manufacturing business in Parker Street.

At least 15 Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) trucks, including specialist units, are at the scene where an industrial paint workshop, measuring about 100-metres by 50-metres, is ablaze and issuing a large volume of black smoke.

The building contains a range of materials including 1000kg of powdered paint, wooden pallets and cardboard boxes.

Fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus, have established a defensive perimeter as they combat the flames.

No-one has been injured in the 'third alarm' fire.
