Elderly woman saved in embankment rescue - Newport

Published: 28 Apr 2022 11:40am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and NSW Ambulance paramedics have rescued an elderly woman from a car teetering on the edge of a steep embankment at Newport on Sydney's northern beaches.

Three FRNSW trucks rushed to Hillside Road around 5.45 last night and found the Honda sedan three metres down the embankment.

An 82-year-old woman was trapped behind the wheel.

Firefighters stabilised the car and set up a winch system as paramedics carefully reached the woman and assessed her condition.

She was rescued from the vehicle, the car then winched back up to the roadside.

The motorist escaped serious harm and did not require hospitalisation.
