Dog's barks save owner - Terrey Hills

Published: 20 Apr 2022 04:46pm

A barking dog has alerted authorities about the plight of his owner who fell into a septic tank today at Terrey Hills, in Sydney's north.

The dog's barks were heard by a child in Myoora Road about 12.30 this afternoon.

The child contacted Triple Zero (000) and Police, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and the Rural Fire Service rushed to the scene where they found the dog's owner, stuck upside down inside the tank.

In a time-critical effort, authorities rigged a rope hauling system to extricate the man, as the water levels inside the tank slowly rose.

The man was successfully lifted out of the tank around 2pm and taken to hospital for medical assessment of his minor injuries.

The dog is being praised for saving his owner's life, proving once again, he is man's best friend.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for an emergency can be the difference between life and death.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
