Truck Fire - Chatsworth

Published: 22 Mar 2022 11:06am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a truck fire near Maclean on the state's north coast.

The fire broke out just before 5am today on the Pacific Highway at Chatsworth Island.

The truck's trailer, loaded with beer and dog food, was fully involved in fire.

The driver managed to detach the prime mover from the burning trailer and drive it clear of the flames.

FRNSW crews from Maclean and Grafton battled the blaze with water relayed from NSW Rural Fire Service tankers.

NSW Police closed one north-bound lane on the Pacific Highway during the incident.

Heavy machinery was required to pull apart the smouldering contents.

The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) also attended the scene.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
