School Fire - Raymond Terrace

Published: 21 Mar 2022 09:29am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) extinguished a large fire at Irrawang Public School in Raymond Terrace near Newcastle last night.

Firefighters arrived on-scene and found a demountable building well alight on Geer Street just after 10:30 pm

More than 25 firefighters battled the blaze for two hours before it was extinguished. No other buildings were damaged in the incident.

NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and NSW Police were also in attendance.

The cause of the fire is still being determined.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
