Coraki rescue - Coraki

A Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crew, cut off by floodwaters at Coraki in the Northern Rivers district, has saved the life of a person suffering a heart attack.
The crew was on duty at the Fire Station in Adams Street just after 7.30 this morning when it noticed a person running towards them, yelling for help.
The firefighters grabbed a medical kit and rushed a few doors down where they found a 60-year-old man unconscious and no longer breathing.
A local nurse was there trying to resuscitate the victim when the fire crew took over, administering CPR and two shocks from a defibrillator.
A local doctor, located at the town’s evacuation centre, also arrived to assist.
The man regained consciousness and was airlifted by helicopter to Gold Coast Hospital.
Coraki remains isolated by road due to floodwaters.
