Teddy the Dog Rescued - Wallacia

Published: 03 Mar 2022 04:56pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have overcome floodwaters to carry out a rescue of a furry kind at Wallacia, in Sydney's west.

Just before midday today, Teddy, the Irish Wolfhound, was having life-threatening complications after an operation a few days earlier.

With Bents Basin Road covered by floodwaters and impassable, two firefighters from Warragamba Fire Station accessed the dog's property by driving over the Old Silverdale Hillclimb bush track in one of their own 4-wheel drives.

The remaining fire crew and a Rural Fire Service team stood by at Bents Basin Road ready to assist.

The firefighters successfully reached 'Teddy,' who's now being treated by a veterinarian, with his relieved owner by his side.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said we attend numerous large animal rescues every week, while FRNSW has the skills and equipment to rescue a large animal, we encourage the community to be aware of prevention measures. Including awareness of livestock location, checking fences and insuring an ample supply of water.
