Large fuel emergency - South Lismore

Published: 02 Mar 2022 12:10pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews working in the flood zones at South Lismore today have contained dangerous leaks at a fuel storage facility.

Crews attended the property in Elliott Road just after midday and were confronted by leaks from two large tanks, each containing up to 100,000 litres of fuel.

Fire and Rescue NSW Hazardous Materials specialists established an exclusion zone of 200 metres and prevented it leaking into floodwaters and nearby storm-water drains.

They worked with local FRNSW crews to cover the fuel with foam.

The scene was handed to the site owner who will arrange for a commercial contractor to extract the remaining fuel.
